Baptism :
First-time parents must attend a baptism preparation class, held quarterly,
before their child is baptized. If this is not your first child, please attend a
class
if it has been more than four years since you last attended. A reflection on the
meaning of the Sacrament of Baptism, the Rite of Baptism, and a discussion
of Catholic family life and faith development, the goal of the class is to help
parents become aware of the significance of baptism as a beginning,
not an end, to a lifelong commitment. The one hour class delves
into the purpose of baptism from both a spiritual and practical standpoint,
provides
parents with tools for raising their Catholic family as a "domestic church,"
and information regarding the order of the Rite. Classes are held every quarter
at 9:15 a.m. in school building in October, January, April & July. Consult the
parish bulletin for the next class date. It is only necessary to attend one
class
before your child is baptized. Baptisms are not scheduled until a Baptismal
Registration Form (obtained through the baptismal class) has been completed
and turned in to the parish office.
For information
on baptism for children grades 3-8, see RCIC (below).
1st Reconciliation and
First Holy Communion (2nd grade):
In speaking of FHC for children, the Church specifies that they
distinguish the
“mystery of Christ” in the
Eucharist according to their
capacity and receive the sacrament with faith and
devotion.
We seek to prepare them through weekly instruction and formation during
regular
CCD time,
and a special retreat culminating in the reception of these sacraments.
To register your 2nd grade child for 1st Reconciliation or FHC, download a
registration form,
choose the CCD track and pay the registration fee, and mark the 1st Rec. and/or
FHC boxes.
1st Reconciliation is held during an Advent Penance Service.
Reception of First
Communion is at 10:30 Mass May 17, 2009
or at the Hispanic Mass the same afternoon.
A baptismal certificate must be submitted for sacrament prep.

RCIC (Rite of
Christian Initiation for Children, Grades 3 - 8):
Often children miss receiving
the sacraments according to the usual schedule due to relocation,
divorce, or conversion. When this is the case, they attend their own initiation
classes
during regular CCD time, designed to instruct them on the rudiments of the
faith
and prepare them to receive the sacraments.

Confirmation Prep (8th

The Church specifies that confirmands be “suitably instructed, properly

renew the baptismal promises.” With these goals foremost in our minds, the
preparation program
includes weekly instruction, formation requirements detailed in the confirmation
workbook (contents below),
and a retreat, all culminating in Confirmation at the Cathedral in May.
