    eligious Education

With the help of God’s grace, the education and formation ministry of St. John Vianney
parish strives to bring members into a deep, personal relationship with Christ and His
Church. We provide programs that bring about the formation of children, youth, and
    adults, namely, that they grow in understanding and acceptance of Catholic doctrine;
in active participation in liturgical and sacramental life; in embracing the fundamental
principles of Catholic morality; and in exercising the life of Catholic prayer.

    Adults

"Catechesis for adults, since it deals with persons who are capable of an adherence
that is fully responsible, must be considered the chief form of catechesis. All the other
forms, which are indeed always necessary, are in some way oriented to it"
    (General Catechetical Directory, 20).

CAFΙ (Catholic Adult Formation & Education):
Adult classes are offered year-round at 9:15 am in the school and include Scripture and
Catechism studies, Church History, Why Catholic? and NFP. Current classes and
schedules are published in the parish bulletin and on the website homepage.

RCIA
Explore the beautiful Tradition of the Catholic Church—her sacraments,
liturgy, liturgical year, teachings, prayer, and community. Each group varies in personality,
but is typically made up of Catholics and non-Catholics who are looking to better
understand the rudiments of the Catholic Faith, to begin the process of becoming
Catholic, and/or to prepare to receive the sacraments.

RCIA meets every Sunday morning during CCD, at 9:15 am in the school, through the
Easter season. To join the next RCIA class, fill out a registration form and return it to
the collection basket, parish office, or DRE. Click here for an RCIA 2011-2012 Syllabus.

  CCD

We offer a nursery for preschool children to age 3, CCD for grades Pre-K – 8,
youth catechesis and ministry, and sacrament preparation. CCD sessions
include a visit to the chapel each semester for prayer and Confession.

Registration/Workbook fees: Registration is in the school lobby. All
classes include a text and/or a workbook for which the registration fee helps defray
costs and guarantees minimal personal investment. Registration is $20 per child or
$50 per family. All workbooks and texts are ordered according to the number of paid
registration forms. To register your child for CCD, fill out a registration form and return
it with payment to the collection basket, parish office, or DRE. For those not baptized
at St. John Vianney, a baptismal certificate must be submitted.

    Attendance Policy
: Adequate preparation, and therefore adequate attendance, is
required in order to keep your child in the current year of sacrament prep. There are 38
total classes in the CCD year, 36 weeks of instruction and 2 parties. Your child must be
in CCD attendance for at least 35 of 38 weeks in order to play SJV sports, and/or
receive the sacraments at year end. Inadequate attendance forces the postponement of
sacrament reception until the next cycle of sacrament prep in the fall of the next year.

All CCD children are eligible for SJV sports, and more information on sports teams is
available through the parish office. If our attendance policy is a hardship due to divorce or
other circumstances, we want to help. Contact the DRE to make other attendance
    arrangements.

    RCIC
(Rite of Christian Initiation for Children, Grades 3 - 8) Often children miss receiving the
sacraments according to the usual schedule due to relocation, divorce, or conversion.
When this is the case, they attend their own initiation classes during regular CCD time,
designed to instruct them on the rudiments of the faith and prepare them to receive the
sacraments. To register your child for RCIC, fill out a registration form and return it with
payment to the collection basket, parish office, or DRE. For those not baptized at St.
John Vianney, a baptismal certificate must be submitted.

   Youth

High school students meet Sunday mornings during CCD for classes. Hang out with
friends, make new ones, and foster your relationship with Christ in His Church through
weekly formation meetings, sports events, concerts, movie nights, hiking trips, lock-ins,
laser tag, ski trip, mission trip, volunteering at the animal shelter, work camp, ultimate
Frisbee, and more. The Sunday morning text is Understanding the Scriptures, by Scott
    Hahn.
To register your child for Youth fill out a registration form and return it with
payment to the collection basket, parish office, DRE, or Youth Coordinators, David and
    Amanda Tennessen.

   Jr. and Sr. Girls' Sodality
Essentially spiritual organizations for strengthening Catholic faith and practice and
directing them toward acts of practical charity, sodalities have existed in the Church for
centuries. Girls in grades 6-8 meet the third Sunday of each month from 5-7 pm, and
    dinner is provided.
