Agnus Dei
Entrusted by God to be the primary educators of their children, many families choose
to home school. The Agnus Dei home school group meets at 10 a.m. on the first
Friday of each month in the basement of the parish office building. The meetings
consist of devotions, lessons and crafts for the younger kids and a service activity
for the older ones, followed by a shared meal. The students look forward to
spending time with their fellow Catholic home schoolers and the adults to sharing
the joys, stresses, and insights that come with it. In addition, the group organizes
field trips to places of interest to Catholics, such as the Fathers of Mercy,
Hugh Rogan’s Cabin, and the proto cathedral. Whether you are curious about it or
are already home schooling, contact Jennifer Grimmig, elementary and middle
school - 888.2094 & Joyce Kacar, high school - 451.0262.
Altar Society
The Altar Society is a branch of the Legion of Mary, and while not
sacristans, at St. John Vianney its volunteers care for the sanctuary. Everything they
clean, sew, wash and polish speaks of love, and they consider this speech as one way
to contemplatively speak to the world. Contact: Nora Cannon 888.3071
Choir
The choir at St. John Vianney consists of about fifteen very dedicated singers who
practice from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. every Wednesday night and sing at the 10:30 Mass
every Sunday through the choral season. The choral season runs from the Sunday
after Labor Day through Corpus Christi. Most of our choral repertory and much of the
congregational singing at 10:30 is sung a Capella. While most of the Liturgy at SJV
is in English, we also sing some music in Latin, Greek and Russian, and our music
literature spans every age of Church music from Gregorian Chant to Duruflé, and
now music of the twenty-first century. For more information contact choirmaster
Stuart Kelly at 452.0594.

miss getting together with the Funtimers! Whether it's a road trip to the Space
Museum in Huntsville, the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg, or cruising the
Cumberland, the members of this ministry are on the move. September through
June, Funtimers meet at noon the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the basement of
the office building for a potluck and bingo, a movie, Bunko, or just to socialize with
one another. Don't let a lack of cooking skills keep you away! There's always
enough food for anyone who wants to drop in. Contact: Ann Neville 452.9241
