Nothing plays a greater role
in Gods pedagogical art than
the shift from one to the other extreme. No sooner have we learned something half-way
and begun to grasp it than (oh, shock!) out of the warm bath
and into the cold! This is meant
to ensure that we do not settle
into any situation but remain pliable, and to make us
recognize that true insight does
not come from what we have grasped but from ever-greater readiness and deeper
obedience.
Hans Urs von Balthasar

Parish Announcements... The Girls Sodality will meet on Sunday, January 29, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The evening will include praying the Rosary, making Valentines for the residents at Gallatin Healthcare, and dinner. All girls in grades 5 through 8 are invited to attend. The Senior Boys League will meet next Sunday, February 5, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will include recreation, prayer, altar server practice and dinner. Blessed palms may now be returned to the church for burning in order to prepare the ashes for Ash Wednesday, which is on February 22, 2012. Place the palms in the wicker basket in the narthex of the church. Fr. Gideon's Bible Study meets every Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. in the parish office building. January 2 they will continue a study of The Book of the Prophet Isaiah. This is particularly appropriate as the Church celebrates Christmas. An adult bible study, Healing the Father Wound, facilitated by Sonja Corbitt, meets every Tuesday evening: Mass at 6:30 pm in the chapel, and Bible study at 7:00 pm in the school. Click here for details or contact Sonja Corbitt at 615-655-5500. The Prayer Team asks that you and remember and intercede for the following: Bishop David Choby, Claudia Puryear, Gary Dorris, Robert Condinho, John Long, Kristi Albert, Pat Lazenby, Darlene Rezac, Kaye Wickstrom, Sarah Miller, Joe Fertitta, Sr., Claire Joyce, Charles Roberts, Don Slepski, Irene Kowandy, Brenda Hodges, Kathy Schmittou, Ruth Ann Barton, Max Piper, Jane Zimmer, Art Williams, Wanda Herring, Sara Gideon, Mary Ann Hudson, Pat Brady, Cyndy Zimmerle, the people of the parish, Pope Benedict XVI, and all priests. The St. John Vianney Gala and Auction, Spring Time in Paris, is set for Saturday, April 28, 2012. The committee, headed by Susan Gerstner, has already started planning and organizing this annual event. Volunteers are needed to assist with decorating, food preparation, procurement of auction items, and office assistance. This is the largest single fundraiser for the parish and school. For more information or to volunteer, contact Susan Gerstner at 604-3338. Reaffirm your devotion to our Blessed Mother and invite the statue of Our Lady of Fatima to visit your home. Contact Joyce Brokaw at 452-9279 to make arrangements. The Legion of Mary meets each Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the parish office building. St. Marthas Guild Food Pantry is available for parishioners in need of food. Donations of food can be placed in the white containers in the narthex. If you or anyone you know needs help, contact the church office at 452-2977, extension 10.
